How OptiSettings Evaluates Performance

A transparent overview of our hardware modeling engine, benchmark data sources, and algorithmic calibration formula.

The 3-Stage Mathematical Pipeline

1GPU Rasterization & Resolution Scaling

Every GPU is indexed with an empirical raster score calibrated against standard baseline cards. When targeting 1440p (2560×1440) or 4K (3840×2160), render pixel counts multiply computational load by 1.5× and 2.2× respectively.

2CPU Draw-Call & 1% Low Bottleneck Modeling

Esports shooters like CS2 and Valorant are heavily constrained by single-thread instruction throughput and L3 cache memory bandwidth (such as AMD 3D V-Cache). If your CPU cannot service frame dispatch calls quickly enough, the engine smoothly throttles maximum frame ceilings to reflect realistic 1% low frametimes.

3Memory Paging & Engine Shader Penalties

Systems configured with under 16GB of system RAM or mechanical hard disk drives incur calculated streaming penalties to capture asset traversal micro-stuttering observed during testing.

Benchmark Data Sources

OptiSettings utilizes publicly available benchmark telemetry published by independent PC hardware laboratories, including:

  • Digital Foundry: Deep dive architectural analysis and frame-time pacing.
  • Hardware Unboxed: 50+ GPU comparison suites and competitive settings optimizations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OptiSettings install background software or modify my registry?

No. OptiSettings is a 100% web-based analytical tool. It does not download executables, modify Windows registry settings, or access your system telemetry directly. You manually adjust the recommended options inside your game’s graphics menu.

How are the estimated frame rates calculated?

We evaluate raw GPU rasterization capabilities normalized across modern microarchitectures (Ada Lovelace, Ampere, Turing, RDNA 3, RDNA 2, Battlemage). The engine scales performance by resolution pixel density (1080p, 1440p, 4K), evaluates CPU draw-call limits, factors system RAM bandwidth limits, and accounts for engine-specific shaders and volumetric pipelines.

Why does the tool recommend lowering shadows and volumetric fog first?

Modern game engines (Unreal Engine 5, REDengine, Creation Engine 2) calculate complex ray-marched volumetrics and cascaded shadow buffers that disproportionately burden GPU pixel fillrate with diminished returns in visual perception during high-speed gameplay.

Will these settings prevent thermal throttling?

Optimized settings lower unnecessary GPU power draw and VRAM paging spikes, frequently dropping GPU operating temperatures by 5°C to 12°C. However, thermal throttling is primarily governed by PC chassis airflow and cooler mounting.

Can these settings damage my graphics card or CPU?

No. Graphics settings inside games only utilize standard DirectX, Vulkan, and OpenGL API features provided by the game developer and driver. The optimizer does not overclock hardware or overvolt components.
